AFL-CIO to Keep Ties With Embattled Police Union (2)

The nation’s largest labor federation said Tuesday it will maintain its affiliation with police unions, resisting calls from left-leaning activists following the police killing of an unarmed black man in Minneapolis.

In a statement, the AFL-CIO‘s General Board said it would work with the International Union of Police Associations to develop a “code of excellence” for officers. The federation acknowledged that its decision could be met with hostility, but that it would achieve more progress by engaging with police rather than isolating them.
