AFL-CIO Urges Ending Senate Filibuster to Pass Union Bill (1)

Union leaders urged the U.S. Senate to scrap its longstanding filibuster rule, hoping to clear the way for an ambitious labor reform package stalled in the upper chamber.

The recommendation was unanimously approved Thursday by the AFL-CIO executive council, comprised of more than 50 representatives of the nation’s largest unions. The labor leaders called on the Senate to change a rule requiring 60 votes to end debate on a bill and bring it to a final vote, if the rule keeps being used to block legislation.
