Justice Department Reaps $3 Billion From 2019 False Claims Cases

The Justice Department recovered a total of $3 billion from businesses that were alleged to have defrauded the federal government in fiscal year 2019, DOJ officials announced Jan. 9.

The bulk of that money, $2.6 billion, was from settlements for the Department of Health and Human Services, with the other $400 million for other departments, according to DOJ statistics. This was the tenth consecutive year of HHS settlements topping $2 billion.
