The Wisconsin Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled Gov. Tony Evers lacked the authority to limit capacities at bars, restaurants, and other indoor locations, the latest high court decision rejecting the governor’s push to use his authority to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
The 4-to-3 decision is the latest defeat for Evers (D) in his attempts to get Wisconsinites to stay home, wear facial coverings, and take other actions in response to the virus. The conservative-leaning court and the Republican-controlled state Legislature have opposed the governor’s attempts to fight Covid-19 for more than a year.
