Virginia Considers Permanent Covid-19 Worker Protection Rule

Virginia officials are considering whether to make permanent the state’s first-in-the-nation temporary Covid-19 worker protection rule.

During a public hearing Tuesday, worker advocacy groups pressed the state to enact a permanent standard with stronger protections before the emergency temporary rule expires Jan. 27, six months after it was approved July 27 by the VirginiaSafety andHealthCodes Board.

Employer representatives questioned the need for a rule and said if a permanent standard is approved, the measure should include a clause to cancel the rule once the state’s Covid-19 emergency ends.
