Senate Republicans Press Health Officials on Covid-19 Boosters

Several Republicans Tuesday pressed top health officials to allow Covid-19 vaccine booster shots for vulnerable populations such as cancer patients based on data from Israel and other countries.

The heads of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration said they are constantly monitoring what’s happening in the U.S. and around the world but don’t have data to support recommending booster shots. Since January, unvaccinated patients accounted for more than 99.5% of Covid-19 hospitalizations and deaths, indicating the vaccines appear to offer protection against the variants, including the delta variant that’s quickly become dominant strain ...
