IRS Promotes Covid Tax Perk to Boost Year-End Charitable Giving

The Internal Revenue Service is touting a temporary above-the-line deduction for charitable giving that is only available for another few weeks.

The December 2020 pandemic relief law allows people to deduct up to $300 (or $600 for joint filers) in cash donations to qualifying charities without having to itemize on their 2021 tax returns. The agency partnered with the Independent Sector and the National Council of Nonprofits for a Monday call to raise public awareness of the temporary benefit, which is available until Dec. 31.
