Walgreens Hit With Suit Over Glucosamine Supplements

Walgreen Co. faces a new proposed class suit alleging it passes off inferior glucosamine supplements as a more desirable type of the popular arthritis products.

Glucosamine is typically sold in two formulations: glucosamine sulfate and glucosamine hydrochloride, the suit says.

The label on the pharmacy retail giant’s Finest Nutrition-brand product says each serving contains 1000 mg of glucosamine sulfate, Theda Jackson-Mau alleges in a suit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

Laboratory testing confirms that the Walgreens supplement contains glucosamine hydrochloride but no glucosamine sulfate, the suit alleges.
