United HealthCare Latest Insurer Sued Over Liposuction Coverage

United HealthCare Services Inc. wrongly refuses to cover liposuction treatments for patients with a chronic condition called lipedema, a new lawsuit alleges.

The insurer is accused of wrongly treating liposuction surgery as an “unproven” treatment for lipedema. Contrary to United’s position, specialized liposuction is the “only available” therapy for this condition, and it’s routinely performed at leading medical facilities, the lawsuit claims.
