Uber, Lyft, Others Must Face Disability Bias Suit Over Scooters

Uber Technologies Inc., Lyft Inc., Neutron Holdings Inc., and two California cities must face a proposed class action alleging that disabled communities are disproportionately affected by the presence of electric scooters and bikes, after a federal judge Tuesday allowed some claims to advance.

Los Angeles resident Mia Labowitz, who relies on a wheelchair for mobility, filed the lawsuit in 2018. She alleges that residents with disabilities in Santa Monica and Los Angeles are concerned about being injured or impeded by electric vehicles including scooters and bikes, such as those provided by Uber, Lyft, and Bird.
