Sporting Goods Retailer Hit With Proposed Breach Class Action

A sporting goods retailer violated the Maryland Personal Information Protection Act and acted negligently by failing to protect consumer data from an October breach, according to a proposed class action filed in California federal court.

Plaintiff Jesse Pfeffer suffered credit card fraud as a direct result of the breach at Wilderness Sports Warehouse LLC, according to a complaint filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

The San Luis Obispo, Calif.-based company was hit with a data breach in October 2021 that affected more than 1.8 million consumers, according to the complaint. The company operates ...
