Spectrum Brands Hot Roller Proposed Class Suit Stays Federal

A proposed class suit against Spectrum Brands Inc. over allegedly dangerous hot rollers can stay in federal court because the amount at issue is more than $5 million, the Western District of Pennsylvania said.

The amount at issue, properly determined through national sales figures, renders federal-court jurisdiction proper under the Class Action Fairness Act, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania said.

Bruce Winkworth and Marcia Botelho alleged the Remington Hot Rollers get too hot, exposing users to burn risks.

They seek to represent a nationwide class and a Pennsylvania class.
