Purell Maker Hits Back at ‘Snake Oil’ Class Allegations

Consumers alleging Purell maker Gojo Industries Inc. deceived them about the hand sanitizer’s effectiveness “cast the Product as snake oil and Gojo as salesman, but it is Plaintiffs who are peddling false claims in pursuit of unearned riches,” the company told an Ohio federal court.

Manal Aleisa and others say Gojo misled them into thinking Purell could prevent disease and reduce illness. The proposed class suits followed a warning letter to the company from the Food and Drug Administration, saying certain marketing claims went beyond those permitted for topical antiseptics.
