Michigan State Faces Bias Claims Over Plan to Cut Female Sports

Michigan State University was hit with a proposed class action in federal court Friday by female student-athletes who say the school violated Title IX when it eliminated its women’s swimming and diving teams, leaving players in limbo.

Sophia Balow, a sophomore who was accepted into MSU’s business school, is one of several named plaintiffs who say they chose MSU in part because of those teams. The school announced in October it will discontinue the programs at the end of the 2020-21 school year.
