Genworth Life Insurance Customers See Suit Over Charges Revived

A purported class action over the way Genworth Life & Annuity Insurance Co. calculates life insurance rates was reinstated by the Eleventh Circuit Tuesday despite a prior suit over the charges.

A Georgia federal court didn’t have sufficient evidence to find the case covered the same conduct at issue in the previously settled class action, the appeals court said.

Genworth was sued in 2000 in Virginia federal court based on would-be class allegations that the company deceived customers into purchasing life insurance policies by “representing that their premiums would remain level, vanish, or not be required in the future.”
