Florida Waste Companies to Face Joint Employer Liability

Waste disposal companies can’t evade joint employer liability through corporate restructuring and multiple name changes, a federal judge in Florida ruled, declining to toss a proposed collective action by workers who say the companies violated federal overtime law.

Steven Huff sought to represent himself and other similarly situated employees in a collective action alleging that his employers’ timesheet management and lunch break policies violated overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
