Class Certification Nixed in Debt-Collection Costs Lawsuit

A proposed class certification in a Fair Debt Collection Practices Act suit against General Revenue Corp. was denied because the plaintiff’s claims aren’t typical of class members and she has a conflict of interest, an Ohio federal court ruled.

Rachel Thompson’s claims aren’t typical of proposed class members with claims that arose before the statute of limitations ran, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio said Tuesday.
