Army Settles Class Action From Discharged Veterans With PTSD

Two veterans who challenged the Army’s policy for reviewing less-than-honorable discharges of personnel with post-traumatic stress disorder urged a federal court in Connecticut to approve the settlement of their class action, under which the Army would reconsider applications for discharge upgrades under a more lenient standard.

Veterans can apply to the the Army Discharge Review Board for an upgrade in discharge status. Stephen Kennedy, an Iraq War veteran, and Alicia Carson, a veteran of Afghanistan, received less-than-honorable discharges and were denied upgrades.
