Dormant Criminal Abortion Ban in Michigan Blocked by Court (2)

The Michigan Court of Claims granted a temporary injunction Tuesday blocking enforcement of a 1931 law that criminalizes abortion on the chance that the US Supreme Court overturns its abortion-rights precedents.

Judge Elizabeth Gleicher sided with Planned Parenthood of Michigan challengers who argued that the Michigan Constitution recognizes a right to bodily integrity. The state’s law with felony penalties for abortion violates this right, she said in her 27-page opinion.
