Walmart is expanding its legal department by bringing aboard Jeanine Jiganti as a senior vice president and general counsel for health and wellness. She’s the third female general counsel hired this year at the retail giant.
Last week, Walmart said it had hired former Jones Day partner Kerri L. Ruttenberg as its senior vice president of litigation.
Jiganti joins Walmart from DaVita, Inc., a large health care company where she was senior vice president and chief compliance officer from 2012-18. She starts at Walmart on June 3.
Walmart’s legal department is headed by Rachel Brand, who was No. 3 at the Justice Department. In February, she joined Walmart as executive vice president, global governance and corporate secretary.
Jiganti has been a compliance consultant for one year, and an independent board member at Kindred Healthcare, in Louisville, Ky., which owns long-term care hospitals and hospital rehabilitation facilities and contract rehabilitation services.
She also was chief compliance officer for Takeda Pharmaceuticals from 2005-12, and general counsel for Near North Insurance Brokerage for one year, between 2002-03, according to her LinkedIn profile.
