Vivek Ramaswamy Calls ‘Transgenderism’ a Form of Mental Illness

Vivek Ramaswamy said “transgenderism” is a form of mental illness, calling medical interventions “barbaric” in the second Republican presidential debate on Wednesday.

Ramaswamy, a Republican 2024 contender, said parents should be notified if any child wants to identify as a different gender.

When asked about parental notification laws, he leaned hard on the issue, calling gender-confirmation surgery “genital mutilation” — a term usually reserved for surgeries done on girls and young women in countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
