Uber, Rivals Liable for Italy Employment Taxes, Prosecutor Says

Food delivery apps like Uber Eats must pay back taxes for tens of thousands of delivery riders in Italy who have been improperly classified as independent workers or will face criminal prosecution, Milan’s top prosecutor said Wednesday.

A year-long national investigation found the companies had improperly classified more than 60,000 bicycle and scooter delivery riders as self-employed, Milan District Attorney Francesco Greco said in a statement.
