U.S. Soccer Waited Too Long to Flag Pay Argument, Players Say

It’s too late in the game to allow U.S. Soccer to argue that is isn’t on the hook for work performed overseas, the U.S. Women’s National Team argued to a federal judge in California.

The players are demanding $67 million from the U.S. Soccer Federation and claim they’re paid substantially less than the Men’s National Team because of their sex, in violation of the Equal Pay Act. A trial is set for June.

The Equal Pay Act does have a carveout for work performed in foreign countries, but U.S. Soccer should have raised that exemption when it first responded...
