DLA Piper advised funds linked to Ares Management Corp.’s credit group on their $150 million preferred equity investment in Major League Soccer franchise Inter Miami CF, Ares said.
Hogan Lovells said it advised investment group Miami Beckham United LLC and its majority owners Jorge and José Mas regarding Ares’ investment. The law firm called it “the first ever private equity investment in any MLS team.”
Hogan Lovells also advised the Mas brothers on their related buyout, with former soccer star David Beckham, of stakes in the team held by investors Marcelo Claure and Masayoshi Son, according to a statement. No financial terms were disclosed for that transaction.
Pablo Alvarez, Inter Miami CF vice president and general counsel, played a vital role in the deal, Hogan Lovells said.
Founded in 2018, Inter Miami launched its inaugural season in March 2020 as MLS’ 25th team. It became only the seventh MLS team to make the playoffs in its first year, according to a statement.
