Ruger’s Rifle Design Suit Against Smith & Wesson Dropped for Now

Sturm, Ruger & Co. and the brand owner of Smith & Wesson agreed to drop their patent dispute in New Hampshire federal court over the design of Ruger’s 10/22 rifle, according to a new filing.

Ruger told the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire last year that Smith & Wesson’s T/CR22 ripped off its design and was an attempt to “capitalize on the popularity and goodwill associated with the 10/22 rifle that has been created by Ruger over five decades.”

Ruger sued its competitor’s brand owner—American Outdoor Brands—for allegedly infringing its trade dress.
