Ruger Says Smith & Wesson Rips Off 10/22 Rifle’s Trade Dress

A Smith & Wesson rifle duplicates Ruger’s “classic” 10/22 rifle and infringes its trade dress, a complaint in the District of New Hampshire says.

The American Outdoor Brands Corp. imprint’s T/CR22 is an attempt to “capitalize on the popularity and goodwill associated with the 10/22 rifle that has been created by Ruger over five decades,” the July 31 complaint says.

Ruger launched the 10/22 rifle in 1964. Ruger says the 10/22 remains one of its most popular firearms, and that it’s sold millions of the rifles worldwide.

According to Ruger, Smith & Wesson’s T/CR22 is “virtually identical” to the 10/22. ...
