Jan. 26, 2022, 6:12 PM

Ropes & Gray has named partner Ama Adams managing partner of its 170-person Washington, D.C., office, the firm announced Wednesday.

Adams advises companies on trade and investment regulation, including in Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States investigations. She replaces Roes & Gray partner Colleen Conry, who retired at the end of last year, according to the firm.

Adams is also co-chair of the Ropes multicultural forum. Her appointment means that five of Ropes & Gray’s seven U.S. offices have women acting as managing partners.

“Ama is a strong, visionary leader, and a trailblazer among CFIUS and international risk lawyers,” Julie Jones, Ropes & Gray’s firmwide chair said in the announcement. “She commands the respect of clients and our attorneys, which makes her the perfect office managing partner. Ama will boldly lead our Washington, D.C. office into the future.”

Adams has done pro bono work assisting asylum seekers, particularly at the Texas border.
