Pinterest Escapes Copyright Infringement Accusations For Now

Pinterest Inc. beat allegations from a photographer on behalf of a purported class of copyright owners that accused the site of aiding copyright infringement by its users, according to a California federal court.

Judge Edward J. Davila for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California dismissed claims that Pinterest contributed to the “rampant infringement by third parties” of a photographer’s works in a Sept. 3 order, saying professional photographer Blaine Harrington III didn’t have enough evidence. The claims were part of a complaint that accused the “visual discovery” site of wrongly integrating images with targeted advertisements. ...
