The US Patent and Trademark Office is issuing a final rule to formally shelve its stalled plans to permit patent practitioners to voluntarily certify continuing legal education credit.
The final rule, scheduled to be published in the Federal Register on Thursday, will amend PTO regulations adopted in August 2020 allowing registered practitioners to voluntarily certify CLE completion and the PTO to publish those certifications.
The newly issued rule will adopt the PTO’s proposed interim final rule, which eliminates the CLE certification, provisions without any changes.
