Ohio Sues FirstEnergy Over Nuke Aid, Alleging ‘Corrupt Activity’

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost filed a civil suit against FirstEnergy, Energy Harbor and others, alleging a pattern of corrupt activity in connection to a state law to aid struggling nuclear reactors.

  • The 43-page complaint filed in the Court of Common Pleas in Franklin County seeks to block companies from receiving money under the law, HB-6
  • The complaint says companies formed an “Unholy Alliance” with lawmakers to pass the bailout and moved money through non-profit organizations to subvert Ohio’s campaign finance laws and IRS requirements
  • FirstEnergy fell as much as 4.5%, the most intraday since July
  • Suit comes two months after federal authorities arrested former Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder and four political associates, saying they took about $60 million in bribes in connection to the bailout
