New Liability Tack on Scooters, Over Access, Gets Mixed Ruling

Disabled San Diego residents can’t continue with their novel would-be class claims alleging several ridesharing companies like Bird Rides Inc. and Lyft Inc. should be liable for speeding and abandoned scooters and bikes that allegedly block sidewalks and other areas, a federal court in California said.

But they may proceed against the city of San Diego on claims for injunctive relief and, in part, statutory damages, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California ruled Tuesday.
