Massachusetts A.G. Avoids Exxon Climate Change Deposition

Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey won’t have to appear in Dallas Dec. 13 for questioning under oath by Exxon Mobil Corp.’s lawyers, a judge said in a dispute about whether her probe into public disclosures about climate-change data is politically motivated (Exxon Mobil Corp. v. Healey, N.D. Tex., 16-cv-00469, 12/12/16).

The long-scheduled deposition of Healey, who is investigating whether Exxon misled investors for decades about the possible financial impact of climate change on its business, was canceled Dec. 12 by U.S. District Judge Ed Kinkeade, who didn’t give a reason in a one-sentence order. ...
