Man Serving 58 Years Wins Habeas Appeal Over Ineffective Counsel

An Indiana man serving 58 years for murder scored a major legal win Friday, when a federal appeals court in Chicago affirmed that his conviction was the result of errors by his trial attorney, who failed to have a forensic expert testify about the victim’s cause of death.

The US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit ruled 2-1 for Dewayne Dunn, who was found guilty of murdering a neighbor during a fight on their shared balcony.
