Lyft Aims to Toss Driver Suits It Says Overlap with State Action

A driver for Lyft Inc. in California who sued the ride-hailing app on behalf of the state in 2018 can’t proceed with claims stemming from his alleged misclassification as an independent contractor because an action filed by the state’s Labor Commissioner covers the same issues and time period, the company told a San Francisco judge Wednesday.

Brandon Olson sued Lyft under California’s Private Attorneys General Act, which allows aggrieved employees to seek civil penalties on behalf of the state.
