Lawyer Who Repped ‘Multiple’ Clients With Conflicts Disbarred

An Ohio lawyer who represented clients with conflicting interests in litigation involving a former colleague without getting their consent was permanently disbarred.

John Joseph Okuley also practiced law while suspended in 2018, for which “the normal penalty” absent mitigating circumstances is disbarment, the Ohio Supreme Court said Tuesday.

In addition to failing to get the informed, written client consent in a matter involving his former colleague’s termination agreement, another of Okuley’s cases “involved one client’s claims for money against another client in the same proceeding,” conflicts that “could not be waived,” the court said.
