Lawyer Who Neglected Clients, Didn’t Return Fees Disbarred

A Louisiana lawyer who failed to file motions for clients, didn’t communicate with them, and refused to return unearned fees was disbarred.

Christine Voelkel “violated duties owed to her clients, the public, the legal system, and the legal profession,” and her conduct “caused significant harm to her clients,” the Louisiana Supreme Court said Tuesday.

In a child support matter, a client wasn’t able to afford another attorney after Voelkel stopped responding to him and didn’t return unearned fees, the court said.
