A man fighting barriers to suing law enforcement encountered his latest hurdle at the Supreme Court: whether the justices will even decide the issue he wants them to.

James King says his suit against members of a federal task force who beat him up should proceed after his claim against the government was rejected.

Skeptical justices criticized the government’s argument that his suit can’t proceed during the remote oral argument Monday, while wrestling with what legal question to decide.
