Jones Day Reshuffles Corporate Team Under New Leader Shumaker

Jan. 23, 2023, 7:56 PM

Jones Day on Monday named new leaders for its corporate practice a week after losing the head of the mergers and acquisition group to Davis Polk & Wardwell.

Partners Andy Levine, Randi Lesnick and Vica Irani will oversee firm transactional work worldwide, including M&A and private equity, the firm said in a statement.

The appointments come after James Dougherty, the global head of its M&A practice, left the firm to join Davis Polk. The firm had said in response to that move it “is implementing practice leadership changes in connection with its transition to a new managing partner.”

Jones Day managing partner Greg Shumaker took the top spot at Jones Day on Jan. 1 and became the firm’s first new leader in more than 20 years. The three new corporate practice leaders “not only have extensive experience but also decades of practice ahead of them,” Shumaker said in the statement.

New York-based Levine has led Jones Day’s private equity group since 2017 and has aided global transactions for both sponsors and strategic participants, according to the firm.

Also in New York, Lesnick previously served as the firm’s M&A chair for the Americas. She has had more than 35 years working on M&A transactions with an aggregate value in excess of $300 billion, the firm said.

London-based Irani has held leadership positions within Jones Day, including Europe, Middle East and Africa chair for the M&A Practice and co-chair of the firm’s Global Women’s Affinity Group.

The appointments “set the stage for future growth of a transactional practice that has a two-decade record of acting on more deals than any other law firm,” the firm said.

Pittsburgh-based partner David Grubman will chair the firm’s Americas M&A Practice, while Chicago-based Lisa Lathrop will join the private equity leadership team.
