‘I’m Not a Cat’ Takeaways: Judges Give 5 Virtual Court Tips (Video)

A routine civil forfeiture hearing in Texas’ 394th Judicial District Court went awry Tuesday when Judge Roy Ferguson logged onto Zoom and was greeted by two lawyers and an adorable kitten. Attorney Rod Ponton was using a computer with a cat filter added to his settings.

It has been nearly a year since the pandemic closed courthouses and forced the judicial system to go virtual. While lawyers are getting better at remote hearings, hiccups still happen. In this video, judges from across the country share advice that lawyers need to know to ace their virtual court appearances.
