Guild, Talent Agency Settle Part of Hollywood Antitrust Case

The Writers Guild of America and United Talent Agency reached a settlement in Los Angeles federal court of their antitrust claims, part of a broader dispute over Hollywood agencies’ practice of bundling together stars and writers in pitches to production companies.

The deal—formally disclosed in a July 17 filing after being announced two days earlier—will bring UTA’s “packaging” practices to an end after a two-year “sunset period.” It doesn’t affect the rest of the lawsuit pending between the guild and two other top agencies in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
