GE to Buy Ultrasound Company From Altaris for $1.45 Billion (2)

General Electric Co. agreed to acquire ultrasound company BK Medical from Altaris Capital Partners for $1.45 billion, bolstering its medical scanner business, the conglomerate’s top source of profit during the Covid-19 pandemic.

BK Medical, which has 650 employees and headquarters in Boston and Copenhagen, makes devices that help doctors see inside a patient during surgery.

“This transaction helps GE Healthcare continue to expand beyond diagnostics into surgical and therapeutic interventions, simplifying decision making for clinicians,” Kieran Murphy, GE Healthcare’s chief executive officer, said in a statement Thursday.
