Engineering Company McDermott Taps GC with Energy Background

John Freeman, a veteran of the energy logistics industry, has been appointed general counsel, senior vice president and corporate secretary of the engineering company McDermott International, Inc.

Freeman is making the jump to McDermott from TechnipFMC, another fossil fuels and energy extraction engineering company. He will replace Liane Hinrichs, who announced she is retiring from the company at the end of 2017.

“As McDermott continues to grow, John’s versatility and global experience in our industry will be of particular benefit to the Company. I am looking forward to working closely with him,” stated David Dickson, President and Chief Executive Officer of McDermott in a release.

A request for comment wasn’t immediately returned.

In his previous role, Freeman served as special advisor to the integration of Technip and FMC, according to the release.

Prior to the merger, he served as general counsel for Technip, based in Paris, and early in his career he briefly worked as a prosecuting attorney for the U.S. Office of Special Counsel, according to his Linkedin page. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas, and a law degree from the Washington & Lee University School of Law.

McDermott is a energy services company that regularly reports around $2.5 to $3.5 billion in revenue. They are primarily engaged in engineering and fabrication of offshore, subsea, brownfield and greenfield oil and natural gas drilling platforms. They operate in 20 different countries — according to their website — from the U.S. to Brazil and Azerbaijan.
