Chevron Off the Hook for $8.6B Ecuadorean Award

Chevron won’t have to pay an $8.6 billion award by an Ecuadorean court for allegedly polluting the Amazon rain forest after the U.S. Supreme Court June 19 declined to hear the case (Donziger v. Chevron Corp., U.S., 16-1178, cert. denied 6/19/17).

Attorney for the plaintiffs, Steven Donziger, argued that the Second Circuit had no authority to bar the recovery of an award issued by a foreign court.
