Aura Digital Security Hires Former Hershey, Wilmer Lawyer (1)

Oct. 7, 2021, 6:36 PMUpdated: Oct. 7, 2021, 8:40 PM

Damien Atkins, a former Hershey Co. counsel who left earlier this year to join WilmerHale, has taken job at Aura, a digital security provider.

Atkins will be general counsel and chief legal officer for the Burlington, Mass.-based company that helps consumers protect their identities, online accounts and devices.

“Aura is entering its next phase of growth, which brings a new set of complex legal and regulatory challenges,” said Hari Ravichandran, the company’s founder and CEO.

The Thursday announcement came a day after Aura named former YouTube content vice president Kelly Merryman as president and chief operating officer. In September, the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves named Aura as “official digital security provider” in connection with its jersey patch.

As senior counsel at Wilmer, Atkins was involved in mergers and acquisitions, and matters involving corporate governance, securities regulation, ethics and compliance, privacy and government investigations.

He was with Hershey from 2018 to January 2021. Prior to that, he was general counsel of Panasonic Corp. of North America starting in 2015. He worked for a decade until 2015 at AOL, where he had been senior vice president, deputy general counsel and chief compliance officer.

Atkins had also served on the board of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association, including being the board chair. He began his legal career as a corporate lawyer with the former Chadbourne & Parke after graduating from New York University School of Law.
