SEC Enforcement Ticks Up as Officials Downplay Case Counts (2)

Top SEC officials aren’t putting much weight behind another annual increase in enforcement activity, with some numbers surpassing or almost hitting figures near the end of the Barack Obama administration.

The Securities and Exchange Commission brought 862 enforcement actions during its fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, according to statistics the agency released Nov. 6. The fiscal 2019 tally is a 5% uptick from the 821 new cases, follow-on administrative proceedings, and delinquent filings the SEC filed in fiscal 2018.
