Lawyer Not Licensed in Illinois Can Practice There, Bar Says

A lawyer not licensed in Illinois can work at an in-state law firm on Illinois cases while under the supervision of a lawyer licensed there, an ethics opinion by the state bar association said.

As long as the lawyer doesn’t make court appearances, she won’t be engaged in the unauthorized practice of law, the opinion, which was posted on the Illinois State Bar Association’s website in late November, said.
