ANALYSIS: Shareholders’ Plastics Proposals Are Making Progress

For the first time since 2016, shareholders have passed a proposal addressing plastic pollution, according to Bloomberg data. Two other proposals on plastic packaging made it to a vote this year before being defeated. These recent actions carry weighty implications for publicly held companies in the plastics value chain.

The successful proposal was filed by As You Sow, an activist group, with DuPont de Nemours Inc. In contrast to other proposals on plastics that have gone to a vote since 2016, the proposal filed at DuPont received very high levels of shareholder support: 81%. The vote results ...
