ANALYSIS: Post-Google Fines Confirm French GDPR Honeymoon’s Over

Notwithstanding the eye-popping € 50 million fine levied by French regulators against Google in January, some business owners may have breathed a sigh of relief, thinking, hey, we’re not a high-profile, multinational organization with billions in revenue. Our honeymoon with French regulators is still all bubbly, right?

Think again.

The French Data Protection Authority (La Commission Nationale de L’Informatique et des Libertés, or CNIL) recently announced sanctions against two companies a mere fraction of Google’s size. Indeed, the larger of the two boasts annual revenue of less than a tenth of one percent of what Google generates.
