Huawei CFO and founding family member Meng Wanzhou left detention in Canada on Sept. 24 and returned to a hero’s welcome in China, ending a three-year legal battle between her and the U.S. Department of Justice. Simultaneously, China released two Canadians that it had detained since December 2018, in a move criticized internationally as “hostage diplomacy” by Beijing.
