Critical Mineral State Department Bill Passed by House Lawmakers

The House passed a bipartisan bill by a voice vote Monday that would revive and rename a State Department bureau for critical mineral supply chains.

The predecessor office for energy security diplomacy was eliminated in a 2025 department reorganization.

Lawmakers voted to advance H.R. 7037 (BGOV Bill Analysis), which would assign the new Bureau of Energy Security and Diplomacy the role of using economic assistance funding to support critical mineral supply chains in partner countries.
